Every check in the index is something you can repeat yourself in about ten minutes, on a phone, using the operator's own site. This page says where each answer lives and how to tell a real answer from a sentence that sounds like one.
Check one and two: the licence and who issued it
Start in the footer. A useful licence line names an authority and a number; a weaker one prints a number and leaves the issuer out, which is common here. Betway Nigeria's own pages carry a licence number issued in Lagos State, a national permit number with no authority named beside it, and a casino permit number in which the regulator's initials are misspelled.
Copy the state named in that line and compare it with the state you live in. That single comparison does more for you than any badge on a homepage.
Check three and four: the withdrawal clause and the condition attached to it
The clause is usually in the general terms or the payments FAQ rather than the marketing pages. Betway's FAQ, for example, describes withdrawals as usually automatic while listing maintenance and banking errors as reasons one may be delayed.
Read the condition next to it in the same sitting. A fast window with an open-ended verification clause behind it is slower in practice than a slow window with a defined document list.
Check five and six: the deposit floor and the bonus arithmetic
Minimum deposits on this market are far apart. Reading the operators' own help and terms pages in August 2026, Bet9ja, SportyBet and MSport each set NGN 100, while Betway Nigeria sets NGN 500.
For the bonus, look for the multiplier and the expiry rather than the headline. A large offer with a heavy turnover requirement is a smaller thing than it looks, and a free bet is not cash until it has been through the condition attached to it.
Check seven: what the book publishes about itself
The last check is the cheapest and the most revealing. Does the site name a legal entity? BetKing prints SV Gaming Limited beside its numbers and Betway Nigeria prints Digi Bay Limited; some of the others name nobody.
An operator that will not say who it is legally has already answered a question about what happens if you need to write to somebody.
